lemony love (yum yum yum)

i love me a lemon.

so here it is - my all time best lemon cordial recipe.

zest* & juice three large lemons  (*use our mircoplane classic zester for super speedy results)

2 cups of sugar

3 cups of boiling water

2 teaspoons of tartaric acid

2 teaspoons citric acid

2 teaspoons of epsom salts

mix together, bottle & store in the fridge.

mix up one part lemon to six parts water, over ice - easy peasey lemon squeezy.

i wish my name was ginger

with the date for us "leeeeeeaving on a jet plane..."  getting closer & closer there are many many things to be done.  very few of these things are fun things.  but i HAVE been meaning to organise my spices & herbs.  being a total kitchengeek, this is an exercise in much thought & (a tiny bit of) effort.

slowly slowly small glass jars have been gathering in preparation.  some bought (thank you the warehouse), others saved (mustard jars should never be recycled) & others pilfered (yussssss for maccona drinking neighbours).  "hello my name is" stickers from  warehouse stationery. & i am now, in a word, SORTED.

i just wish my name was ginger (or brown sugar...)

new adventures coming

2012 was a BIG year in the kitchengeek.co.nz house.  kitchengeek.co.nz was born & so was the lovely o.  so how can we top that in 2013?

turns out we are going to give it a try.

we are leeeeeeaving on a jet plane.

BUT do not fret - it's not for good.  BUT it is for almost three months (BUT not for another month or so). AND just think of all the exciting treats we will bring back for you...

kitchengeek.co.nz will still be in action while we are away.

so here's to another exciting year!

in the beginning...

o the magnificent is growing growing growing (in size, strength, personality & noise).  with this comes new adventures.

this week is the beginning of our adventures with *food.

in the spirit of starting as you mean to go on - avocado.  eaten in bed.  & not a dot on the sheets.  all in the gob.  so proud.

next?  this is the source of much passionate debate...

ps. i'm pushing for pumpkin.

old school is good - especially when talking fudge cake

so when it comes to making things - quick & easy, with a bit of delicious on the side - is my bag.  to achieve this, old old old recipes seem to be the best.  you remember - those first recipes you were allowed to make by yourself?

my favourite (at the moment anyway) - old school chocolate fudge cake.

i can't remember where this recipe came from.  it looks a little clean & new in my recipe book but i promise -  you will recognise it.

the best news?  i store mine in the freezer.  delicious.  & because i can't see it & it's too far away to call my name, it sometimes last longer than a day...
